[What a vague and frustrating answer. It's what he gets for dealing with a person like Monica, he supposes. She was just mysteries within mysteries, never clear with what she thought or what she wanted. It was a little annoying and a little nice at the same time.]

When you say things like that with such a carefree attitude, you'll make people worry about you.

Hmmm. [Another giggle, and Monica leans over to peer at Seki.] Are you worried about me, then?

No way. [The answer's instantaneous.] When you tell a guy this sort of thing, though, it's hard for him not to feel guilty. What's a good person supposed to do when you say you don't have a place to stay?

So Seki's a good person, huh? [She's teasing. She takes a few steps and grabs his arm and presses herself against it.] What is a good person supposed to do?

[He doesn't move away when she does it. Like with most everything, he just takes it. Goes along with it. It's a familiar routine.]

Supposedly, you're supposed to lend them a hand. But it's not like I should know. It's not my job.

[He's no fun ever since he stopped reacting. She shakes her head in disappointment.]

Yeah, if anybody had that job, it's definitely not you. But so, with a girl telling him she has no shelter, what is Seki going to do?

Dunno. [He's very good at sounding nonchalant.] Maybe, since you aren't too bad looking, I could offer to buy you dinner tonight.

Really?! [She smiles brightly. Look. She'll light up your night. She'll blind you.] Will you?

[This is why Monica is a terrible friend to have around. She's actually nice to be around. Seki rubs the back of his head.]

I said I might. Don't push your luck.

[That's a yes, captain.]

[SCORE.]

What if I said I wouldn't make you do it for free, if that's the problem?

Huh? [He blinks.] ... you wanna make it troublesome? That's too bad. I'll keep on insisting.

[She grins.] I don't want to owe you any favors. I'd rather pay you on the spot so I don't have to worry about it later.

[As stupid as it was, he really did want to treat her to dinner. It's been a while since he's picked up a chick, okay. But by the same token he understands that pushing the issue will only be a bigger pain in the neck, so fuck it. Better to give in.]

Fine, have it your way. I'm buying you dessert, though. That's final.

[She laughs as he nods, agreeing to the demand. Teasing aside, this was the first time in a long while that anyone's tried to be gentlemanly of all things to her, and she's not about to start complaining. Besides, dessert sounded fantastic.]

That sounds fair to me. I'll accept! Should I just follow you around today, then?

Why not? [He shrugs, all gangly motion.] I'm not gonna turn a pretty girl like you down.

You turn me down all the time. But oh, well, I don't mind the change of pace today. [Enjoy your girlfriend of the day, Seki!]

[Awww yeah life is winning. He'll be leading her to his motorcycle now.]

Playing hard to get's part of the fun. You'd know that, right?

I like chasing people who do that more, but I guess I'll need people to play hard to get for my fun, then. Why are you feeling so generous today?

[He checks over the bike.]

... does there need to be a reason for it?

Mm.

[She picks a rubber band off the ground and uses it to tie up her hair. It's way too long not to on the motorcycle.]

I guess not. Not from you.

[That's what he likes about her. That she can just go with the flow of things, never really fighting it. Even so, he starts talking again as he starts it up.]

But that's how human beings are, right? They need a reason for everything they do. We're a bunch of maniacs for answers.

[She slides herself onto the bike behind him, leaning forward and locking her hands together at his stomach. As much as she makes fun of him, she likes being up against his back. It's pretty warm.]

Isn't it scary not to know if someone's being nice to you because they're nice or because they want something?

[It's strange to have the presence of someone beside him. Has it really been that long since he had human company...?

--christ, that makes him sound so pathetic. He guesses he is. That's no news, that's for sure. He has to raise his voice over the engine, but they aren't going too fast yet for the wind to take their breath.]

Do you think it'd be better if we knew the reason behind everything?

Knowing why something happened won't undo what happened, but if you know why it happened, it helps you avoid the next time. [She doesn't have to raise her voice so much if she raises her head so her chin's on his shoulder. This way she can talk right at his ear.] Don't you think?

[He has to admit. Her presence there is warm and familiar.]

You make human relationships sound like a danger zone. I mean, what the hell, we're pretty dangerous animals in the end.
